Hi, I’m going to talk to you about how I teach young children about the element of color. Color is very important for children. Not only do they really enjoy looking at color and making color, but it’s also a very strong observation skill of science because it is the science of color. So, it can extend their learning in in other ways as well. So, one of the first thing I do what the children is emphasized that all three colors, all colors in the world come from three primary colors. Which are red, and I have the children make a spot of red. And then I have a make some yellow. And what’s really fun is you can, as you put the paint brush in the cup the kids can observe how the water changes color as well, and then they make some blue. Again, emphasizing that these are the primary colors and all colors come from these three main colors. And then we go, and we look for things that are red, yellow, and blue in the classroom, outside, on their clothes, and then when you’re confident at the children know the primary colors, and you start mixing the colors, like you would do with red, and you put a little bit of red in there, and then some yellow, and you mix it together to make and orange. So that the children know, and you can even draw an example, or line to show that children that these two colors go to make orange. Then you do the same with yellow, and blue and notice that it makes green. And then you do the same thing with yellow, with red and blue to make purple. Always telling them may, stressing that these are the primary colors, and these are the secondary colors, and all colors come from these three things. Then you can also do the things with crayons, if you would take a blue, and a yellow, and you have the kids actually take your finger, and mix it together to see that blue and yellow make green. So, that they actually make color, because that’s what’s so exciting for them. If you want to you can make a little book of different things that are red, in their house, or at school. Like they have red clothes, they have red roses, they have, they could have yellow, they could have something yellow in their classroom, a book, or a bus, or something like that, so always helping the children make the color using different materials, or just finding it in nature. And then they can make, collect a book of different things that are of different colors, and that’s I teach my students the elements of art that is color.
