Fundamentals of Art: Kandinsky Project

Giving kiddos opportunities with the elements of art, helps them to express themselves in unique and different ways. I try to focus on a different artist, maybe once a month, and just introduce new ways, new elements, new ways of creating artwork. Sometimes I’ll let them free draw, and draw whatever they want. But other times, I give them boundaries, or limitations on how I expect their art to come out. We focused on the Kandinsky circles last week. And this was a fun project to talk about how he uses color, and pattern, and layers. So, when we did our project they were given the background as a rectangle. And many options in the circle patterns to use. They just had to make sure that they used the sizes correctly. So, the largest circle on the bottom, followed by a smaller one, than a little bit smaller one. And I didn’t really give them an expectation on how many circles to use. Just so that you can see the pattern underneath the circle behind. Art is such a great way to express the kids’ thoughts, and dreams, and values through pieces of work.
