Ideas for Teaching Rhyming: Smiley Wiley

by

P.J. Auchterlonie | Caldwell Elementary | Wichita, Kansas

In this activity, the students decide whether two words rhyme and use the characters of Smiley Wiley and Sad Sarah to indicate their choice of yes or no. Sometimes the teacher gives them two words and other times, she gives one word and has a student choose the other. Rhyming is an important skill that helps students prepare for reading, writing, and spelling.
