Hi, my name is Steve Brostowitz, a teacher in transitional kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade. And, today I’m going to talk to you about a couple of ideas you can do when teaching the kids about timelines. The first one comes in when you assign them their all about me presentation. A lot of kindergarten teachers, what they do is they send the assignment home and have parents put together a poster board and the kids come in and present it. And this is one of their first chances to present in front of a whole group, and what better topic then themselves. Well, you can tweak it a little bit and make a requirement that they present it in a timeline format. So, when they go to their poster board what you have instead of just, here’s me playing soccer, and here I am at the princess parade and here I am with my little brother, the other thing you can do starting day one in your classroom is put these up. One by one, day after day in your class and make it part of your morning routine or perhaps your end of the day closure and each day you have a child come up and this is hung along your ceiling, you have a child come up and they get to put day one. And put an artifact from day one down here. So, here’s along the top of your ceiling, and then the artifact from you’re your class that day. Maybe you worked on coloring, maybe you worked on numbers, maybe you learned the letter A. And then, day two and what you worked on, on day two and it keeps going day after day after day and pretty soon halfway through the year you have this historical record of your class with artifacts the kids can relate to around your room and they get that number sense they get that sense of time and they get that sense of increasing numbers as time goes on and they’re reflecting on experiences they had. This is Steve Brostowitz telling you a couple of good timeline activities you can do with your kindergartners. I’ll see you next time.
