Vocabulary Building

In my classroom, every single Monday, I introduce a new vocabulary word. Now that vocabulary word is different each week, and we talk about that word and what it means, and then we try to use it in sentences all throughout the week. So they get very familiar with that word. So this week, the word is “meander,” so we talk about it and then we use it in sentences. The other way I use this new vocabulary word is in place of the word “go.” So I usually will give my students some instructions, I will have them repeat it back to me verbally, sometimes using gestures, other times just using verbal cues. Then, when I say the word of the day, clap two times, then they go. So instead of saying go, this week I would clap two times and say, “meander!” Try using vocabulary words throughout your school day.
