This song helps the teacher and students learn and remember each other’s names. It can be used at the beginning of the school year and repeated until all the names have been learned.
In the beginning of a new school year it is important for the teachers to learn the name of the students quite quickly. One way I like to do this is through song. It helps me, and it helps the students remember their new classmates. So, the song is a good morning song, and I like to teach rhythm, and I like to teach names with the students, and it’s okay, sometimes I have them wear name tags in the first few days, just to help me a little bit, but each song they’ll sit in a circle, and each I will sing their name as I go around the song, singing good morning to my friends. So, it goes like this, and I like to do knees and clap kind of like this; Good Morning, good morning, good morning to you, good morning good morning, good morning to you. The day is beginning there’s so much to do, good morning, good morning, good morning to you. Good morning, good morning Henry, good morning, good morning Sammy, the day is beginning I’m happy to see you, good morning, good morning, good morning to you. And what you do is just go around your whole circle and you use each person’s name, and then remember to sing I am happy to see you after every two or three names. This is one way the kids feel welcome, and that I get to remember their names a little bit faster.
