Hello. I’m Sam Kelly. I’m an artist and educator. And, today I’m going to show you how to do a simple sponge printing activity for kindergarten aged children. You will need some tempera paint. You’ll need an ordinary kitchen sponge, which I’ve cut up into a little strip. And, you’ll need a piece of white heavy paper. I’ve used cardstock. You could even go heavier with a watercolor paper. And, I’ve mixed a purple which is the final color in my rainbow. So, this is an activity where kids get a chance to get a little bit messy and kind of lock those colors of the rainbow in, in a very tactile way. So, I’ve already done my red, my orange, my yellow, my green, my blue, and my purple. So, it was just a very even light coating of paint on the sponge and I’m just pressing it down. You could even go over the top of it to fill in the gaps. And, obviously not limited to the rainbow you could all kinds of shapes and patterns to explore this texture and this printmaking technique. I’m Sam Kelly. That’s sponge printing for kindergarteners. Thanks for joining me.
