We all know the importance of practice to help us learn new skills. We are constantly reminded that “Practice makes perfect.” To help students get the maximum benefit from their practice, teachers follow a proven method. In this method, there are three levels of Practice. First, as soon as the teacher shows them the skill, the students practice immediately, to makes sure they are doing it correctly. In the second level, the teacher creates opportunities for students to practice the skill several times throughout the day. In the third level, the students do more practice over a longer period of time. Students need a lot of practice to learn and perfect a skill. The teacher has them practice in many different ways, applying the skill in a variety of activities. While the students are practicing, the teacher gives them help as needed. Let’s review. Practice is done in every subject area. After learning a new skill, the students practice immediately … throughout the day … and over a longer period of time.
