Daily Calendar: Singing and Counting Days

The teacher sings a song with the students to help them learn the days of the week using a calendar. She guides the students through the practice of learning numbers and the pronunciations of days of the week. At the completion of the lesson, students are able to identify the day and date of the week.

This is our daily calendar. So, in our daily calendar, I work with three and four-year-old’s. So, we really emphasize the counting aspect of a calendar. So, how we work, is we sing a little song about the days of the week, and make sure we emphasize there’s seven days of the week. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then, we will find what day it is, because we’re keeping track each school day, and adding numbers to our calendar. All right. So, you ready to do our calendar? Okay, there’s Sunday and there’s Monday, there’s Tuesday and there’s Wednesday, there’s Thursday and there’s Friday, and then there’s Saturday. Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week, days of the week, days of the week. Let’s do it again but stop on today. Are you ready? It’s a good song to sing. There’s Sunday and there’s Monday, there’s Tuesday and there’s Wednesday, wah, wah, Wednesday. Can we clap Wednesday? Okay, thank you so much. All right, and did we have school yesterday? No, so we need to put our number on yesterday too. So, let’s do some counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. Oh, here we come. These are big numbers, 14, 15. Oh, my goodness. We did not come to school on the day of 15. It is 15 today, today is the fifteenth and you are at school. Alright, let’s do some counting on our days. Are you ready? This is a big number, take a big breath. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, oh, 15. Oh, my gosh. A one and a five is fifteen. We are doing 15. So, today is wah, wah, Wednesday, March 15.
