Students can keep themselves organized with this two folder system. Each folder stores information and also separates student work to help them stay better organized in the classroom.

During our literacy block, we were finding that students were losing papers, and being really forgetful about where things are. So, what we did was, we created this two-file kind of folder system. And so, we call this, our daily five folders. We put their name on the front, and its basically just two file folders. Just two pocket folders, and we bound them together. And on the inside of each one we did cut out, so that since I teach first grade it’s easier for them to kind of put papers in and out of. In the first folder we have a label that says, “read to self”, we also have a word work folder. On the inside covers, we thought about putting different laminated word lists, like a sight word list or monthly word list, that they could use during their work on writing. And this is their red folder, their writing folder. It says, “Start on writing” and this is their finished work on writing. So, this is just where we can put papers that they have started, but they haven’t finished. And then when they finish they can, of course, put them there. Try this in your classroom.
