Using cheers in a classroom is one way to build community between students, and the teacher and student. In my classroom, our favorite cheer is the Ten-Finger Woo. We also use this during math time to learn our combinations of ten. So I might say, Let’s give Eden a two-finger Woo! And they might go, Woo! 2 + 8 is 10! Woo! And give her a ten-finger Woo. We also use this to build each other up. Students can suggest that someone else needs a Woo hoo! in their life, and so we will turn to that student who they suggest, and the student might say, she needs a 15-finger Woo! So we’ll give her a 15-finger Woo. Woo! Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo! This builds each other up, and it’s a great way to build student and teacher relationship. Try using cheers in your classroom. The ten-finger woo can also given to themselves so they’re building a positive self-image. Different cheers for different times. Cheers are all over the place online. Check some of them out today.
