Our next lesson in collage is going to incorporate some of the elements of the first lesson which would be choice. But, we are going beyond that to another element of collage which is tearing and placing of torn materials together in an artistic way. In this particular, collage you see that I’ve used mostly warm colors, or hot colors. Red, yellow, yellow, and orange, red. And in between I’ve interspersed some cool colors as well. So, right now what I am going to do is, I’m going to take this black piece of paper on which I’ve already torn one piece and pasted down. And now I’m going to take a piece of paper and show you how to tear. There are several different ways. One of the ways to tear is to get your finger right together like this and get them close together. Your fore fingers here, your thumbs there. And keep them close together as you tear. And by doing that, now I’m moving my hand, but you notice this hand this thumb is staying close together. And by doing that you have more control over your tearing than if you were just tearing it sort of wildly. You need a controlled tear. On this side we don’t want that straight line so, were going to tear again. Notice again that I’m keeping my fingers close together and controlling the tear. And then that way it makes it much easier. It could be frustrating if you just try to tear it any old way. So, two fingers together along the tear helps. I’ll be demonstrating that some more. All right here’s, here’s where we go with choices again, do I like that yellow against the green? And the answer is I’m not sure. So, I’m going to take a different, uh, I think I’ll take the red. I’m going to show you how to tear again, and this time I’m going to put this down and tear in very controlled fashion. Fingers tight against this part of the paper, these fingers down, tight here, and this piece of paper has a white edge which as I said is very nice, looks good in some cases. I think I like the red better next to the green.
