In my classroom, we play a game called Beat the Teacher. S is for Students, T is for Teacher. If the students are doing what they’re supposed to be doing: getting started right away, working the whole time, then they get a point. They get a point on the Students side. If the students are not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, maybe they’re wandering around the classroom, or they’re goofing off, then the Teacher gets a point. So right now, my classroom is quiet. The students are learning, they’re working hard. I’m going to give them a point. And I keep watching throughout my whole math time, or phonics time or even Daily 5 time, I keep track of Students and Teacher, and at the end of our time, I award Students a star. When Students get ten stars, then we have a Star Party in my classroom as a way to reward them, or celebrate their good learning. So try Beat the Teacher in your classroom today!
