by

Teach for Life | Wichita, Kansas

Demonstrating, also known as “modeling,” can help students understand what a teacher wants from them. Showing students how to do something should be paired with verbal instruction to teach a new skill as shown in this video.

Children learn by copying what they see others do. So rather than just telling students what to do, it is more effective for the teacher to show them what to do. This method is called Demonstrating, or Modeling. The teacher demonstrates by showing and telling the students what to do. Then the students do it themselves while the teacher watches. The teacher may need to demonstrate many times to help the students understand and remember. This method can be used to teach a skill or activity or, to show students how you want them to behave.
